The sterling silver center is an antique-reproduction medal of the heart pierced with seven swords, each representing the Blessed Mother's sorrows: The Prophecy of Simeon, The Flight into Egypt, The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple, Mary meeting Jesus as He carried His Cross, The Crucifixion, Mary receiving the Body of Jesus from the Cross, and Jesus' Body being placed in the tomb.
