A HELP FOR LENT

"As a practicing Catholic, I always make it a habit, every year to pray every day of the Forty Days of Lent. I made this vow over 30 years ago when I purchased "The Office of Readings. " I have never broken my vow to The Lord. However, it is sometimes hard to find meaningful homilies or devotions that fit in with the Lenten season. Sometimes Catholic Book Publishing Companies attempt a Lenten devotion, but when the devotion is purchased, it is only general and falls short of the day-to-day prayers and thoughts of the Early Church Fathers and Saints. It is a good thing that "Restore: A Guided Lenten Journal" has done. The illustrations are simple though computer created. There are scripture verses for every day at the beginning of the homily, although I wish that more space had been given to the scripture verses themselves. The size is not the concern, but the length of the verses are. There should be more quotations from the Bible to encourage us to begin the act of praying and devotion. That being said, the homilies are excellent, and includes a journal at the end of each lesson which I particularly enjoy because writing helps me keep a tab oj who I am becoming spiritually--where I am, and where I need to grow. I would strongly recommend the booklet as it serves as a nice companion to "The Office of Readings" that I use from my devotions. While an edition would need to be purchased every year, I think that if the clergy keeps the format as it is, it will give worshipers a better way of praying, and a feeling that they have grown in their spirituality. ."
