CJ says:

"I love the Navarre Bible collection. I already had the complete set of the New Testament books and found the explanations to be invaluable to my understanding of some of the things I was reading. So, I ordered the Old Testament complete set. I do regret though they were not available in paperback which are much easier to handle when you read them at night in bed. Either way, I am enjoying them. They are expanding my knowledge and understanding of my faith."

Understanding Scripture Reading

"The Navarre Bible gives a better explanation for scripture reading than any other bible. The commentaries are excellent. I especially like looking up daily bible readings to get a better understanding for the Word of God. The separate volumes for the Old Testament make it easy to look up the different books. The New Testament is one volume and easy to read also. The Navarre Bible has a great reference guide to help one further comprehend what they are reading. This includes other scripture verses, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Church documents, Saints; in particular St. Jose Maria' Escriva. Best Uses: Reference; Describe Yourself: Everyday Reader; Pros: Easy To Read, Well Written"

Learn the Old Testament

"The books came in flawless condition wrapped nicely in bubble wrap. The comments include writings from the Early Church Fathers & other saints, as well as Catechism references & Church Document references. Each comment reads like a reflection. Awesome not only for learning more about the surrounding history & meaning of the text, but also for gaining a spiritual understanding of the scriptures. I highly recommend the Navarre Bible set to anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with the Lord through Scripture. Best Uses: Gift, Older Readers, Reference, Whoever loves scripture; Describe Yourself: Everyday Reader; Pros: Deserves Multiple Readings, Easy To Read, Informative, Well Written"

Wonderful Catholic Resource

"These volumes are a wonderful resource. The books themselves are very well produced with solid bindings and nice thick paper as compared to other bibles. The commentary is outstanding, not filled with liberal claptrap that infects a lot of modern 'historical perspective' commentaries. One annoyance is that the RSV-CE text, which this and the NT versions use, needs to be more tightly proof read. The latest typo I found (and there have been quite a few) is Isaiah 44:6. It reads ""am the first and I am the last"" instead of ""I am the first and the I am the last"" - there's a missing ""I"" at the beginning of the clause. In some places, it's caused some confusion and I've had to go online or pick up my Douay-Rheims to get the correct meaning of the verse. Other than that, this is a home run. Best Uses: Bible study, Useful for Catechists; Describe Yourself: Everyday Reader; Pros: Deserves Multiple Readings, Easy To Read, Faithful Church Teaching, Informative, Inspired, Instructive"
