The image of Our Mother of Good Counsel, or The Mother of Tenderness, as it is known in the West, dates back to 1467, after Our Lady promised the beautiful fresco, then located in Albania, would not be destroyed by Turks who were sacking the churches during an invasion. Two Albanian men followed Our Lady's instructions and traveled to Genezzano, a small town about thirty miles southeast of Rome, where the fresco miraculously reappeared on the wall of an ancient church. The Christ Child nestles close to his mother in this captivating print as their cheeks touch tenderly. His left hand gently grasps the rim of her dress, indicating the intimacy of nursing.
