The Miraculous Medal Apparition In 1830, Our Lady appeared to a young nun, St. Catherine Laboure. The Blessed Mother displayed herself inside an oval shaped frame, standing upon the world with various rings on her fingers. Around the outside of the frame were the words, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Mary asked St. Catherine to have a medal struck with the image, and spoke of the medal with these words: "All who wear it will receive great graces; they should wear it around the neck. Graces will abound for persons who wear it with confidence." It became known as the “Miraculous Medal” because of the number of miracles associated with the pious wearing of the medal.
The Miraculous Medal Symbolism The Front Side - On the front of the Miraculous Medal, Mary stands on a globe, with a crushed snake under her feet, representing Mary's role as "Queen of Heaven and Earth". The snake represents Satan, who was defeated by Mary's obedience to God. The rays coming from her hands symbolize the graces Mary gives to those who ask her. The Reverse Side - A cross and the letter "M" are prominently in the center. The cross represents Christ's sacrifice for our salvation, while the bar under the cross stands for the Earth. The "M" stands for "Mary" and her true devotion both to Jesus and to her children on Earth. The two hearts are the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The 12 stars can represent both the twelve Apostles and the verse from the Book of Revelation, "a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars" (Revelation 12:1).

Beautiful pendant—poor quality chain and monogram

"The pendant is absolutely beautiful, way prettier in person. I have been wearing it daily. The chain is fairly low quality and my metal allergies were acting up with it on, so I bought a new one. The monogram was very low quality. I know I could probably have them redo it but it was so bad I don't have a lot of confidence they could do better the second time. The letters were very wonky and there were scratches ALL over the front and back of it, so much so that you could hardly read it. Long story short, the pendant is worth the money but you may need a new chain if you have metal allergies. Do not risk getting the monogram."

Hello. There appears to be words engraved on the back of the medal in all of the pictures...looks like STERI & CHAPEL? Is this perhaps just an example of what a personalized piece would look like, or do these words actually appear on each piece?
Thank you for your question. The engraving on the back of this medal reads STERLING CHAPEL. It's cast from a vintage piece made by a holy medal company from 1930-1950 called Chapel Sterling, and the engraving credits them with the origin of the design.
