Florence O. (5/5)

Beautiful book; recipes require considerable skill

"I bought this primarily for Dr. Scott Hahn's essays, which are excellent. I gave the book 4 stars because I found some of the instructions in the recipes unclear. Chef Geisser also assumes a fairly advanced level of cookery skill, both in subject knowledge and technique, and a fairly robust collection of equipment (fine sieves, dough hooks). Expect to do a lot of julienning, stock-making, and kneading. I wouldn't recommend this for casual home cooking, though the essays are, again, excellent, and the photography is lovely."

Margaret (4/5)

Would buy again or for a gift.

"Very informative. Learned about Lenten holidays that I did not know. Good selection of recipes. A must for Lent."

Anne Q. (5/5)

Not many recipes I will use.

"The book itself is great! Beautiful pictures and wonderful readings etc. But I was disappointed in many of the recipes as I was hoping for day to day ideas. Not how to fix octopus."
