What is the chain made of, and is it good for a young man.
Thank you for your question. This necklace is made of zamac, which is a metal made of combining the alloys zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper. It is used in jewelry because it is hypoallergenic, heavy, affordable and durable. Its hardness allows it to hold die struck designs beautifully which means it produces finely detailed medals and crucifixes. This is an ornate piece with a generously sized 24" chain that would make it ideal for young guys, who generally like longer necklaces or need a larger length. Over time, like all plating, the gold finish will deteriorate so your recipient should be sure to care for it by keeping it away from moisture, showers, ocean water, pool water, body lotions, & colognes and storing it in a cool, dry place when not in use. Stainless steel or rhodium plated jewelry is also a good choice if your recipient is active, works outdoors, plays sports, etc. and the finish on those will be a silver tone over a silver tone metal for a more active young man who might not want to remove the necklace as frequently.
