St. Finnian of Clonard
Saint Finnian was a pious man who founded three churches in Ireland while a layman. He did join monastic life and founded a monastery in Ireland that would last for a thousand years as a great center for training Irish saints. Legend tells of Saint Finnian fending off a group of Saxon raiders by causing an earthquake which swallowed their camp. St. Finnian's feast day is December 12th.
