St. Leo the Great
Saint Leo the Great is the first pope to have the title “Great” applied to himself. He is remembered for his great powers of persuasion as he persuaded Emperor Valentinian to recognize the primacy of the Bishop of Rome, Attila the Hun to turn back and not take Rome, and the Vandals under Genseric not to pillage the city of Rome or harm its inhabitants. Saint Leo the Great is also known for his writings as his a Doctor of the Church. St. Leo the Great's feast day is November 10th.
