SoG Thea Bowman

Servant of God Sr. Thea Bowman FSPA was born in 1937 and converted to Catholicism as a child in Mississippi, independently from her family. She went on the join the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Wisconsin, becoming the only African American sister of that order. Thea is known for using her African American culture, music and spirituality to help promote racial justice and sensitivity in the US. She died from cancer in 1990.
